Bridezillas typically may come in two varieties: the passive and the active. Passive bridezillas may use guilt to create action in other people. They pout, they cry, they get depressed. Passive bridezillas sigh and look bleak; they try to guilt trip other people into performing up to their internal standard of perfection. We heard a bridezilla recently in a bridal store. Daddy, she said wistfully. I sure wish I could be the prettiest bride ever. But thats okay. I know you and mom are doing your best. Yikes! Of course the brides father upped the budget and got her the dress she wanted. But the interaction wasnt fair. The father had been guilt tripped into going deeper into his pockets for the wedding. Looking back, will it have been worth it? Should she trade her fathers comfort for a particular wedding dress? By the way, if she had just gone a little further down the rack, she would have seen a nearly identical gown that fell inside her dads budget. The more famous bridezilla is of course the active variety. Active bridezillas use a false sense of power to compel people into doing what they want. Remember, this all comes from a driving need for perfection. The active bridezilla yells, demands and expects that everyone in her environment will put everything else in their lives aside and help her to achieve her perfect wedding. The active bridezilla has lost her ability to see that vendors have busy workloads, family members have lives of their own, and friends have only so many hours in any given day. Active bridezillas are likely to explode when something doesnt meet their idea of perfection. We overheard a bride in a bakery store one day. I dont know whats wrong with you people, she said furiously. I want my cake to have seven layers, not six! Was there a different way she could have handled this situation? Is there really any life-long consequence for having a cake with six layers instead of seven? Should everyone in the establishment have to deal with her explosion? Bridezillas are powder kegs of emotion. Yes, being emotional during the wedding process is normal, but feeling like youre going to absolutely explode if a detail doesnt go your way is not. Remember, we do give brides some room for emotional roller- coastering; but basic manners and consideration for others still applies. Youre still not supposed to scream at other people, or guilt-trip them into doing something! Youre still expected to try to be kind and considerate (at least most of the time). Youre still expected to show respect and concern for others. So, sit down, take a breath and recover yourself. You may need to confide in others your fears, overwhelm, sadnesses, excitement, pressure, or whatever else you are feeling along the way, so that it doesnt build up into being a bridezilla. Keep communication channels open with your fianc, family and friends! You may need to really make some effort every day to do some kind of stress and relaxation exercises. Make sure you are taking care of yourself physically diet, exercise, and sleep. Seek professional help if necessary - sometimes it is! Make it okay. And remember that perfection does not always equal happiness. Do the best you can and others will too. It mounts little by little and you make excuses that they aren't really being abusive, things just got out of hand. Finally it comes to a point where someone notices and points out to you that it's not normal, you shouldn't have to live that way and you realize... you are in an abusive relationship. The kind you see on TV, or in the movies, or read about, but it's your life and you wonder how you got there. From this point of realization, the battle begins. What You Can Do To Create A Deep Connection In A World Full Of Superficial Women and Superficial Men

Immediately after the break up, things look dreary and life is sort of a drug. Although it was your decision (or not) to end things, you are angry about the breakup, angry for two reasons. First you are angry for wasting a big chunk of your life on what you later realized was a lie. Second you are angry that now you have to start all over again, even though you knew your relationship wasnt going at least it was a relationship of sorts. As time goes on, you begin to feel that there is actually a life after a break up. Deep inside you know its going to be hard to trust another human being but you decide that you are going to move past the hurt, anger, betrayal and disillusionment of all that wasted time. You tell yourself, all that is in the past. You want to make friends with new faces. You want to find love in the unusual places. You want romance. You want a deep connection where you finish of each others sentences. And you want sex, lots of incredible sex. You want the real thing! You tell your friends, relatives and co-workers and anyone who cares to listen that you are dating again. You learned from your mistakes and this time its going to be different, better. First you try the traditional approaches or real life dating. But it seems the men and women say one thing and yet do something completely different. They say personality/character is far more important than looks, money and status but reject you because you dont look like their type, dont have enough money or arent a TV personality. You find that many singles are actually superficial and spiteful, indecisive and fickle, hyper-aggressive and impatient. Everyone is trying to screw everyone else. So you try online chatting but too many men and women "window shopping" online and unwilling to consider any but the prettiest faces and sexiest bods. Sometimes you find yourself forced to lie or face an empty mailbox every day. And even if you mange to chat long enough to meet in person, theyll again reject you on the same grounds as in traditional dating (looks over personality and character). You try speed dating, group activities and other match-making services, but the degree of communication and connection is relatively shallow. The men and women have no particular interest in either depth or longevity of contacts with others. And the so-called books on dating and relationships are equally shallow. They dont connect with what you want and desire real exciting, passionate fulfilling love. Date after date, your enthusiasm begins to wane and dread builds. You feel you are not as enthusiastic as you were in the first few months. You keep giving yourself one more chance to get things right. If nothing works, I am going to live a lifetime of celibacy. Getting angry, complaining and blaming isnt going to get you the love you seek. In fact such an attitude shows in a body that distinctively lacks fluid movement; has poor coordination and posture and in an utterly monotonous tone of voice with little variation in pitch or pace, a whining style of speaking or a kind of mournful or artificial strain of voice. Even if what we are saying is truly fascinating or exceptionally amusing your frustration leaks through.
Your frustration with yourself and with others can program itself into your mind and body so deeply that you don't even realize the effects that its having on you and how you date. An example is, you go to a bar or a singles dance and your expectation is that an attractive man or woman there will ask you for a dance. You are crushed when no one asks you to dance all evening and your whole outlook about love, the opposite sex, relationships, life and even about your desirability is affected, not by what happened at the dance, but by your own frustration with everything else. The first thing you need to do is completely GET OVER YOUR PAST. You cannot simultaneously hold on to the past and move forward. Then you have to CLEAN UP you "expectations and demands hard drive. Your "expectations and demands" programming says that your marriage should have lasted for ever. It did not meet those "expectations and demands" so you are unhappy that not only are you single again but your ex moved on - what an ungrateful... whatever! You feel used and abandoned. You're also probably angry because income that used to support one household must now support two households. You expected your ex if they were leaving to at least leave using a certain "right" procedure and they did not. You expected him or her to go through certain expectations and demands of the way you believe they should have done it and they did not. So you are very disappointed by their insensitivity to your feelings and angry at their lack of common sense, depth or "class". Your whole outlook about love, the opposite sex, relationships, life and even about your desirability is all negative, frustrated, discouraged etc. The harder you cling, the more you avoid growing into the person youre meant to become. The second thing you need to do is CHANGE HOW YOU DATE AND RELATE. Yes, there may be people who'll not be attracted to you because of your age, weight, height, income or just because you are you. Sure, there are some men and women who are only interested in these things. But MOST are far more interested in your sense of yourself and how you project what you feel inside than any of those other things. Ask yourself: What are you doing to increase your chances of dating someone interested in a deep connection? Have you done enough to prepared yourself to be the kind of partner that person will want (more loving, more expressive, more attentive, more committed, more caring, more empathetic, more passionate in and out of the bedroom. etc)? Do you know how that kind of person would want to be approached? What kind of things would he/she find attractive in a woman/man? What things make him/her feel loved and cared for? What do you have within yourself to make him/her feel loved and cared for? Where would you meet this kind of person? What would he/she be doing...say on a week night or weekend? Honesty and humanness is the hardest thing to find and maintain in a world as superficial as ours, but you are NOT a "victim of a superficial culture because you have the POWER to change what happens in your life. Thousands of singles "give up" and just totally withdraw from the active dating world, literally hide in a cave and the rest of their life just lick their emotional wounds. What a needless waste of a life time. Finding someone you can connect with human-to-human, soul-to-soul, man-to-woman is the most important job you will ever have. Sharing the richness of your life with that someone is the most important thing youll ever do in your entire life. Start on the path immediately. Truth is, the longer you talk about it, think about it, complain about it and stress yourself over it, the less likely you are to ever do it. Minutes will drag on like days and you will get used to being broken, frustrated and hopeless. And you will begin to more and more dread taking action to turn things around. But lots of other kids didn't get those special shoes and braces. And you know what? Most of their feet straightened out just fine. Those that didn't straighten out completely had few long-term problems. Most could walk and run and jump and skip just fine. Our doctor will keep an eye on the feet, and if he's concerned he'll send us to an orthopedic specialist. You voiced your concern. We heard it. Now, please, drop it. One more example: Ears. The infections aren't our fault. We don't smoke around Little Johnny, and he doesn't go to daycare anymore (since you agreed to watch him). Our pediatrician says those two things are the biggest ones we can control. The ear infections aren't from water or wind or change of weather. They're from mouth bacteria that get into the middle ear through the Eustachian tube, a natural connection between the throat and ear. Little Johnny has a floppy Eustachian tube. Bacteria go up the tube and get trapped when the tube flops closed. Add a little mucus from smoke or allergies or viral infections, and the situation gets worse. We'll keep doing the antibiotics as long as our doctor tells us to, and when he suggests surgery, we'll go with that. The antibiotics don't stain teeth or stunt growth. Sure, antibiotic resistance is a problem. We understand that. We appreciate your keeping up with the medical literature. Still, if our doc says it's best to stick with them, that's what we'll do. By Michael Tummillo The more I read and listen to others who are wading the House Church pool, sadly, the more I see well-meaning Christians inadvertently lifting up the leaders of various "networks" within the movement. Once again, Dissension appears to be trying to rear its ugly head. Each House Church group and network seems to have their own philosophy with each placing greater emphasis on one thing or another. One places a strong emphasis on the Lord's Supper while another stresses that any "layman" can start a church in their home. Another group emphasizes signs and wonders while another emphasizes the "Saturation Church" concept. Many groups are merely taking the "big church" format and reducing it to living room scale, while other groups are, unfortunately, becoming elitist and even divisive as they nurture an "Us against Them" mindset against the traditional, or "legacy" churches. As usual, it doesn't take a Christian very long to revert back to the "holy place of meeting" mentality while giving lip service to the "We are the Church" mantra. But where actual House Church gatherings are concerned, like snowflakes, no two groups will ever be alike. OUR SURVEY SAYS... The common tendency, however, is to look to an individual HUMAN's leadership rather than trusting the Holy Spirit to guide His family. Does that mean our LEADER is the Holy Spirit? Yes, when the Spirit of God invades the soul of man, a new leader emerges, namely, God. Those who know Him will know His voice. What I've found is that far too few of us actually know Him. Leave it to mankind, sojourners and aliens, spiritual beings enduring this human experience, to try and get comfortable here. We send Moses up the mountain to hear from God because we're scared spitless. We'll even pay somebody to hear from God on our behalf - even making that his salaried job, complete with a title (pastor, reverend, father, etc.) - so he can report back to us at the next church service. Mankind, made in God's image and intended to be the freest creature in the universe, actually WANTS to be led by someone else. It's crazy! NOTE: The only thing God NEVER gave mankind dominion over was other people! REPEAT: The only thing God NEVER gave mankind dominion over was other people! Those humans whom we allow to take authority over our lives will take our freedoms - including our spiritual freedoms - if only because we surrender them, NOT always because they wrestled them from our grip. They'll take all the power we give them. The word "religion" - according to Funk & Wagnall's - actually means "a return to bondage." Hmmm. Jesus came to set us FREE! GIVE ME A MAN! In 1 Samuel 17:10, we read about how Goliath shouted at the Israelites, "Give me a man that we may fight each other!" His taunting rang in their ears, causing paralyzing fear. Even today, many are taunted by that same demonic spirit that simply cannot bear to see Christian people submit directly to God, preferring that we submit to a man instead. The apostle Paul had to write a letter of correction to the House Churches that were meeting in the Greek city of Corinth. It seems that some who were coming into The Church - specifically, in this case, those who belonged to Chloe's family - were beginning to take a little too much pride in their spiritual pedigrees and becoming a bit cliquish. They had opened the door to a Sectarian Spirit. According to 1 Corinthians 1:12, they were saying things like, "I am a follower of Paul," and "I am a follower of Apollos," and "I am a follower of Peter," along with those who confessed, "I am a follower of Christ." "I am a follower of Catholicism. I am a follower of the Presbyterians. I am a follower of the Baptists. I'm a follower of (name a preacher, any preacher)." Jesus said, "I will build MY Church, and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it." He never told Peter to build his own network of churches. He said "feed MY lambs," not "feed YOUR lambs." Paul never referred to the churches he planted as "his" churches. Here we read how he pleaded with the Corinthian saints, "Christian brothers, I ask you with all my heart in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to agree among yourselves. Do not be divided into little groups. Think and act as if you all had the same mind." In verse 13, Paul adds, "Has Christ been divided? Was Paul put on a cross to die for your sins? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? I am thankful to God that I baptized Crispus and Gaius only. No one can say that you were baptized in the name of Paul...Christ did not send me to baptize. He sent me to preach the Good News." Good News? Yes, the Good News - the Gospel of the Kingdom that Jesus came to preach about (see Matthew 4;23; 9;35; 24:14; Mark 1:14) that is simply this: 1) There is a King. 2) He has a Kingdom. 3) He loves you and wants you in it with Him so that He can care for your needs. 4) He desires to build that Kingdom with you alongside, working WITH Him as He works THROUGH you. The Queen of Sheba heard about King Solomon and marveled at how he cared for his subjects. From the fine robes they wore, the food they ate, the wisdom the king possessed...he amazed her. "That was some kinda King!" When God cared for the wandering Children of Israel, for forty years their clothing never wore out, water came from rocks, manna and quail were provided to eat and they were provided shade by day and fire by night. Even their enemies were destroyed and those bitten by serpents were healed. "That was some kinda King!" Even King Jesus, when preaching to hungry crowds, provided food. He raised their dead loved ones and healed their sicknesses. "That was some kinda King!" Now, the same Spirit that raised Him from death and led Him in life desires to lead us. But we must submit to Him. We must decrease so that He can increase and shine through us, illuminating our worlds and telling them about the Good News of the Kingdom of God. They, too, once they experience Him, will declare, "That is some kinda King! The Spirit exalts Jesus, and abases the flesh. If our flesh is screaming out for human leadership, pridefully declaring that we are followers of so-n-so, and if our lives are not centered around Jesus, I question whether or not He is truly the Lord - "kyrios" in Greek, meaning "owner" - of our lives. If Jesus is not central to what your House Church is all about, question its reason for being. If you find yourself following any human being and NOT the Spirit of Christ, I have a Word from God for you: Repent! We must fight to keep dissension from entering in among us. Our 30,000 manmade denominations aren't doing a very good job of that, it appears. We have been, despite our good intentions, the #1 cause of atheism on the planet. They will know we are Christians by our love for one another. So, let's all decide to love one another. Jesus is Lord...or He's not.
