By S Stadler When you plan a bridal shower, the main goal is to pay tribute to the bride and wish her the best in her new role as a wife. It is also the perfect time for friends and family to spend a little time with the bride before wedding festivities consume the last few weeks of her single life. How can you plan a bridal shower with ease? Talk with the bride about her expectations. Does she have a particular theme in mind that would be fun? Get her contributions for the guest list. Be sure that the bridal shower guests have also been invited to the wedding. Ask the bride to check her calendar for available dates. You cannot have a bridal shower without the bride! Decide how much you can afford to spend on the bridal shower. Enlist the help of the bridesmaids. Be upfront with them about your finances. Perhaps you all can find a way to divide the responsibilities and costs. Dont forget to obtain input from her family members. Decide on the location. If you do not have the room for a lot of guests at your own home, ask the bridesmaids and the brides family for suggestions on a suitable location. Order the invitations or save money and make them yourself. When you plan a bridal shower, timing is important. The event should be no later than four weeks before the wedding. What time of day you plan the event depends a great deal on whether or not you want to serve a full meal or just have cake, punch and finger foods. Early afternoons, about two hours after lunch, is a good time. Make sure to incorporate the RSVP information into your invitation. Knowing who is coming will help in planning a bridal shower. The number of guests will impact the purchase of your food and drink as well as party favors. Dont forget to include directions to the location! Having enough help the day of the event is essential when you plan a bridal shower. Extra hands can help decorate. Food needs to be prepared. Assistants can log each gift that the bride opens to ensure that a record is kept of who gave what to the bride. This is important when writing the thank-you cards. You must also make the bridal shower guests feel welcome. Plan a few games and a getting to know you session where everyone says how they know the bride. Even share a short story or two about her. Delegate! When you plan a bridal shower, you also want to enjoy yourself at the event and mingle with the guests. If someone asks how they can help, tell them! Be sure that the only thing the bride does is relax and visit with family and friends. Remember, she also has been enmeshed with a ton of planning for her wedding and deserves a break too. One final thing to consider when you plan a bridal shower is taking pictures to commemorate the event. Create a little photo album after the shower to give as your personal gift to the bride. Shell treasure that memento for years to come. What You Can Do To Create A Deep Connection In A World Full Of Superficial Women and Superficial Men
By Christine Akiteng Most people who are divorced or were in a long term relationship will understand what I am talking about. Immediately after the break up, things look dreary and life is sort of a drug. Although it was your decision (or not) to end things, you are angry about the breakup, angry for two reasons. First you are angry for wasting a big chunk of your life on what you later realized was a lie. Second you are angry that now you have to start all over again, even though you knew your relationship wasnt going at least it was a relationship of sorts. As time goes on, you begin to feel that there is actually a life after a break up. Deep inside you know its going to be hard to trust another human being but you decide that you are going to move past the hurt, anger, betrayal and disillusionment of all that wasted time. You tell yourself, all that is in the past. You want to make friends with new faces. You want to find love in the unusual places. You want romance. You want a deep connection where you finish of each others sentences. And you want sex, lots of incredible sex. You want the real thing! You tell your friends, relatives and co-workers and anyone who cares to listen that you are dating again. You learned from your mistakes and this time its going to be different, better. First you try the traditional approaches or real life dating. But it seems the men and women say one thing and yet do something completely different. They say personality/character is far more important than looks, money and status but reject you because you dont look like their type, dont have enough money or arent a TV personality. You find that many singles are actually superficial and spiteful, indecisive and fickle, hyper-aggressive and impatient. Everyone is trying to screw everyone else. So you try online chatting but too many men and women "window shopping" online and unwilling to consider any but the prettiest faces and sexiest bods. Sometimes you find yourself forced to lie or face an empty mailbox every day. And even if you mange to chat long enough to meet in person, theyll again reject you on the same grounds as in traditional dating (looks over personality and character). You try speed dating, group activities and other match-making services, but the degree of communication and connection is relatively shallow. The men and women have no particular interest in either depth or longevity of contacts with others. And the so-called books on dating and relationships are equally shallow. They dont connect with what you want and desire real exciting, passionate fulfilling love. Date after date, your enthusiasm begins to wane and dread builds. You feel you are not as enthusiastic as you were in the first few months. You keep giving yourself one more chance to get things right. If nothing works, I am going to live a lifetime of celibacy. Getting angry, complaining and blaming isnt going to get you the love you seek. In fact such an attitude shows in a body that distinctively lacks fluid movement; has poor coordination and posture and in an utterly monotonous tone of voice with little variation in pitch or pace, a whining style of speaking or a kind of mournful or artificial strain of voice. Even if what we are saying is truly fascinating or exceptionally amusing your frustration leaks through.
Your frustration with yourself and with others can program itself into your mind and body so deeply that you don't even realize the effects that its having on you and how you date. An example is, you go to a bar or a singles dance and your expectation is that an attractive man or woman there will ask you for a dance. You are crushed when no one asks you to dance all evening and your whole outlook about love, the opposite sex, relationships, life and even about your desirability is affected, not by what happened at the dance, but by your own frustration with everything else. The first thing you need to do is completely GET OVER YOUR PAST. You cannot simultaneously hold on to the past and move forward. Then you have to CLEAN UP you "expectations and demands hard drive. Your "expectations and demands" programming says that your marriage should have lasted for ever. It did not meet those "expectations and demands" so you are unhappy that not only are you single again but your ex moved on - what an ungrateful... whatever! You feel used and abandoned. You're also probably angry because income that used to support one household must now support two households. You expected your ex if they were leaving to at least leave using a certain "right" procedure and they did not. You expected him or her to go through certain expectations and demands of the way you believe they should have done it and they did not. So you are very disappointed by their insensitivity to your feelings and angry at their lack of common sense, depth or "class". Your whole outlook about love, the opposite sex, relationships, life and even about your desirability is all negative, frustrated, discouraged etc. The harder you cling, the more you avoid growing into the person youre meant to become. The second thing you need to do is CHANGE HOW YOU DATE AND RELATE. Yes, there may be people who'll not be attracted to you because of your age, weight, height, income or just because you are you. Sure, there are some men and women who are only interested in these things. But MOST are far more interested in your sense of yourself and how you project what you feel inside than any of those other things. Ask yourself: What are you doing to increase your chances of dating someone interested in a deep connection? Have you done enough to prepared yourself to be the kind of partner that person will want (more loving, more expressive, more attentive, more committed, more caring, more empathetic, more passionate in and out of the bedroom. etc)? Do you know how that kind of person would want to be approached? What kind of things would he/she find attractive in a woman/man? What things make him/her feel loved and cared for? What do you have within yourself to make him/her feel loved and cared for? Where would you meet this kind of person? What would he/she be doing...say on a week night or weekend? Honesty and humanness is the hardest thing to find and maintain in a world as superficial as ours, but you are NOT a "victim of a superficial culture because you have the POWER to change what happens in your life. Thousands of singles "give up" and just totally withdraw from the active dating world, literally hide in a cave and the rest of their life just lick their emotional wounds. What a needless waste of a life time. Finding someone you can connect with human-to-human, soul-to-soul, man-to-woman is the most important job you will ever have. Sharing the richness of your life with that someone is the most important thing youll ever do in your entire life. Start on the path immediately. Truth is, the longer you talk about it, think about it, complain about it and stress yourself over it, the less likely you are to ever do it. Minutes will drag on like days and you will get used to being broken, frustrated and hopeless. And you will begin to more and more dread taking action to turn things around. You can continue to beat your brains out, (which is what you have been doing) OR you can decide to find that tiny seed buried deep inside the fiber of your being that shouts forth that you will not be broken, you will not succumb My website has lots more advice on the ingenuity of creating the "click" with the opposite sex. Once you can identify what is about you that promises enjoyment, excitement, arousal and nurturance or some reward related to personal expansion, youll have found the secret of creating a connection that will make both of you feel loved, wanted, desired and fulfilled. Using Human Urine As A Liquid Fertilizer
By Julie Williams OK, so are you over the shock now??? In the not so distant past, we didnt have the luxury of having a small room in the house where we could flush away our number ones and twos. But did you ever wonder how we managed before the water closet? Not that I want to get into the history of it, but lets just say that before the times of our current throw-away society, people thought of multiple uses for just about everything. Well maybe you didnt know that human urine is the fastest acting, most excellent source of Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium and some trace elements. Not only that, but we all have a constant, year round supply of it and its free! Theres not a lot of effort involved in creating this wonderful organic liquid fertilizer. Some men I know are more than happy to oblige a tree, bush or lawn (out of view, of course). Did you know that many toilets use between 50 and 100 litres of water a day to flush around 1.5 litres of pee? And the high levels of nutrients in our effluent systems leads to the growth of algae, which ultimately causes the death of plants and animals throughout our waterways. What are the advantages of using urine as an organic liquid fertilizer? If youre not flushing this valuable liquid down the loo, you are reducing your water consumption good for the environment and your pocket Youll be reducing the amount of sewerage runoff Therell be less nutrients in our waterways Urine as a liquid fertilizer is available in an ideal chemical form for plants to use Gardening costs are less as your liquid fertilizer is free It is readily available all year round and there are no transportation costs Just so that you know, fresh human urine is sterile (unless there is a urinary tract infection this urine should not be used) and so free from bacteria. I recommend that you dilute urine to 10-15 parts water to 1 part urine for application on plants in the growth stage. Dilute to 30-50 parts water to 1 part urine for use on pot plants as they are much more sensitive to fertilizers of any kind. Trees, shrubs and lawn should cope well without dilution. Withhold the use of urine liquid fertilizer on all food plants at least two weeks before harvesting. Apply under fruiting plants, not directly on foliage. Dont use urine older than 24hours on your plants as the urea turns into ammonia and will burn your plants. If its not fresh, add it to your compost heap. Adding undiluted human urine to your compost heap will help heat it up quickly as it is an excellent activator and will add to the final nutrient value. As far as antibiotics, vitamin supplements and other medications go, yes they will end up in your urine, but in such minute quantities that I believe to be negligible especially when it is diluted. So put this excellent source of free liquid fertilizer to good use in your garden, rather than add to the burden that we as humans cause to our environment. Hi, I am an avid organic gardener and am known by my friends as the recycling queen. I live on a small country property in South Australia. California and Financing A Home Options
By Nathalie Fiset Many residents of California will definitely have so many choices for exploration in this place. However, any individual who cares for his or her future will surely prioritize the important decisions, like financing a home rather than just spending on trivial things. As such, it will be very prudent to first take this decision rather than find yourself constantly moving from one rented place to another. Living in California and Financing a Home Most people will find living in California as their goal to achieve the lifestyle that can allow them to maximize their potential and enjoy a comfortable lifestyle. However, it will be possible to live a more comfortable life if you have your own home to invest on. In California, financing a home is fairly a matter that you must take seriously. You have to evaluate the various considerations to know your financial capabilities. You also have to know your options in purchasing a home in California. Your Options to Financing a Home Whether you are in California or elsewhere, financing a home will have to entail consideration of certain choices available to you. You will most probably find yourself in need of money to purchase a home. As such, the best financing option for you might be to search for a home loan. 1. Going to California Banks for Financing a Home When it comes to making loans, the first thing people think is to go to a bank and explore the options there. Banks will definitely have a scheme for home financing loans. It will be easier to get a loan here especially if you have been maintaining a savings or checking account here for some time. There are actually many banks California. However, if you do not know it yet, banks do not offer the best interest rates that will favor your financial situation. You may be acquainted with the officers in the bank, but you will never be able to negotiate any stipulated interest rate or amount. These financial institutions are bound by what is determined for them, as such the rates are rather inflexible. Thus, you have to choose some other better options. 2. Seeking Mortgage Brokers for Financing a Home Mortgage brokers may be a good option for your home financing. They have relatively lower interest rates compared to the banks. They can also provide assistance when you make your loan. The brokers are in constant dealing with various lending sources. As such, it will be easier for them to find a favorable deal and interest rate for you. You will also have an easier time looking for mortgage brokers in California. They often advertise their services on the market. You can even explore the options online. 3. Getting a Correspondent Lender The third option for you is to get a correspondent lender. The correspondent lender will aid you in evaluating a decision for the home financing. At the same time, they are the ones who shall provide the fund for the loan. This is like combining the broker and the banker in one deal. This person can let you pick on the various options and schemes. Once you decided on one, then the correspondent lender can proceed with the contract and lend you the money. You can even negotiate with the lender for a better interest rate payment scheme or even to lower the figures. This is something that you can benefit from in the long run. However, it is relatively more difficult to look for corporate lenders compared to the other two options. They usually operate on a regional basis. Thus, they tend to take form in smaller insitution or firms. Thus, it really needs a good amount of effort on your part to find one. It is also possible to check online and find out if they have a website and this could be a good start. If they do not have, then the yellow pages may be your next option. Living in California will definitely have its perks and highlights. You can definitely make some good time in every minute that you spend here. However, if you choose to really reside in California, then financing a home is definitely the first step for you. Bridal Shower Planning Tips
By Nikola Marshall Someone close to you is getting married and you wish to throw a bridal shower for them. What next? Here are some ideas and tips to help you through. First up, choose a date and time. Unless it is a surprise, consult the bride to be to find a date suitable to her schedule. The most appropriate time table is four to six weeks before the wedding. If most of the planned guests work, a weekend shower would be the best course of action. Everyone will be more relaxed, less rushed and apt to enjoy themselves. A Saturday may work better to accommodate guests that attend church on Sundays. Select a time that will allow guests time to ready themselves in the morning, yet not cut into evening plans. Afternoons seem to be the most popular choice. Plan for an hour and a half to two hours. Send out invitations two to three weeks in advance. This will allow guests to clear their schedules and find the perfect gift. Include any special instructions, directions and contact numbers. Once times and the date are chosen, the next consideration is location. Keep in mind the number of guests, type of party, the budget and times. Some ideas include a private residence, apartment clubhouse, restaurant or community center. Keep in mind whether reservations and a deposit are required. Also ask what time you will be allowed in. Some locations will give you extra time to decorate and set up, others will not. Agree on the time you need the building or room accordingly. If you have co-hosts, now is the time to get together and make some decisions. Do you plan to have a theme? Plan decorations, favors, games and food around it. A theme can even extend to the invitations and name tags! Letting the guests in on the fun, they may have instant gift ideas. Once a theme, or lack of one, has been decided, it will make planning much easier from here on out. For the guest list, anyone on the wedding guest list may be included. If you lack space and funds, shorten your list to close friends and family. Decide on the food that will be served. Plan a menu beforehand so that you may compare prices and quality. Sample all food items if you are ordering or having the party catered. This will save unnecessary embarrassment at the last minute. If you have placed an order well in advance, contact the caterer or store the week of the shower to solidify arrangements. And whatever you do, dont forget the cake! Games should be fun to plan and simple to do. Choose games that match the theme. There are books as well as websites with a multitude of game ideas. Once the date arrives, you may enlist some of the guests to assist. Ask one or two to be in charge of the games. Have another record gifts and keep track of the cards. They will feel included and you will have more time to enjoy your efforts. Relax, put on a smile and have fun! Nikola lives and writes in Oklahoma. She is secretary for the Citizen's Police Academy Alumni and active in the Volunteers in Policing program. She enjoys scrapbooking, reading, watching hockey and spending time with her two dogs. 5 Things to Consider Before Purchasing a Pet Urn
By Steve Goltiao If you are like most pet owners, youve come to see your pet as a best friend or even part of the family. He has been there by your side through the good times and bad, and never held a grudge when you scolded him for doing something wrong. Through the years, your pet has offered you unconditional love, and thats why its important to provide him with the proper memorial when he passes on. If you choose to cremate your dog, cat, bird or other animal, pet urns are a wonderful way to remember your beloved friend. Urns come in an enormous array of shapes, sizes, and colors. But before you go out and purchase one, here are 5 things to consider before purchasing a pet urn. 1. What is your budget? Pet urn prices are just as diverse as their selection. They can range from under one hundred dollars to over a three hundred. It goes without saying that the more ornate and personalized you want your urn to be, the more expensive it will get. 2. What will the pet urn be used for? If you will be burying the urn, a nice yet simple container will suffice. If you plan to display the urn, you may opt for a more ornate and personal design. 3. What type of urn should you buy? It all comes down to your personal preference and budget. There are urns for all types of tastes and personalities: standard vase-type urns, life-size figurine urns that look just like your pet, simple box type urns, photo urns, hollow rock-like urns that can be placed outdoors, and even burial markers with built-in urns that can be placed in your home garden. 4. How will you personalize your pet urn? There are a number of options from which you can choose to personalize the urn, but it ultimately depends on the type of urn you select. Most urns can be purchased with an etched brass plate that can be engraved with your pets name and a quote. Other urns have special sides which allow you to insert pictures. Some urns can be laser engraved depending on the urns material. 5. While it may be convenient to purchase a pet urn from your veterinary clinic, be aware that there are fees added into the purchase price that include transportation of the ashes and markup costs. It may be a better idea to purchase the urn directly from the pet crematory. Selecting a cremation pet urn can be a difficult and personal experience, but it is a wonderful way to ensure the loving memory of your pet is preserved for years to come. An Open Letter To The American Granny
By Mike Patrick Jr, MD Dear Granny, We know you mean well. Really, we do. And we acknowledge that your well-meaning often translates into wonderful actions. You support America's first-time moms with your experienced advice, you volunteer to watch grandkids when they're too sick to attend daycare, and you have taken on the noble responsibility of raising grandchildren fulltime when their parents are sick or neglectful or imprisoned. What's more, you take on this job at a time when you should be enjoying the freedom of retirement. For these actions, we salute you. Really, we do. However, it has come to our attention that at other times your well-meaning has turned into persistent nagging. In an effort to protect your grandchildren from the idiocy of their parents, you have gone overboard. Now before you dismiss our complaint as the ramblings of a bunch of disrespectful youngins, please allow us to describe a few concrete examples of the problem. Let's start with diet. Could you please limit your complaints to once a month? We know full well that you believe Little Johnny is starving. But you know what? We don't share your concern. It's okay if you feel his ribs. In case you haven't noticed, there's a bit of a weight problem in America today. Surprised? You shouldn't be. After all, how many years did you pile on the food and tell us to clean our plates? Our pediatrician tells us it's healthy for toddlers to graze--as long as they get a healthy diet with all the food groups over the course of several days. Eating only when you're hungry and stopping when you're full is a good habit to foster. Feeling guilty about throwing out left-overs is not. Sure, there are starving kids in other parts of the world. You taught us that. What we didn't get was the connection between our table scrap and those starving kids. Were you going to box up the left-overs and send them to Africa? No. So please forgive us for skipping that lesson. Next, let's talk feet. So what if they turn in or point out a little? We'll show our doctor and we'll let him do an examine. If he says they're fine, we're going with that, and we wish you would too. Look, we understand back in your day kids wore special shoes and braces to straighten out their feet. But lots of other kids didn't get those special shoes and braces. And you know what? Most of their feet straightened out just fine. Those that didn't straighten out completely had few long-term problems. Most could walk and run and jump and skip just fine. Our doctor will keep an eye on the feet, and if he's concerned he'll send us to an orthopedic specialist. You voiced your concern. We heard it. Now, please, drop it. One more example: Ears. The infections aren't our fault. We don't smoke around Little Johnny, and he doesn't go to daycare anymore (since you agreed to watch him). Our pediatrician says those two things are the biggest ones we can control. The ear infections aren't from water or wind or change of weather. They're from mouth bacteria that get into the middle ear through the Eustachian tube, a natural connection between the throat and ear. Little Johnny has a floppy Eustachian tube. Bacteria go up the tube and get trapped when the tube flops closed. Add a little mucus from smoke or allergies or viral infections, and the situation gets worse. You can't get rid of the mouth bacteria--they're supposed to be there. Get rid of them and you'll invite thrush to grow, and we don't want that either. We'll keep doing the antibiotics as long as our doctor tells us to, and when he suggests surgery, we'll go with that. The antibiotics don't stain teeth or stunt growth. Sure, antibiotic resistance is a problem. We understand that. We appreciate your keeping up with the medical literature. Still, if our doc says it's best to stick with them, that's what we'll do. As we draw this letter to a close, please understand our aim is not to offend. After all, you were an excellent parent. You raised us. You have lots of experienced advice to share. But let's face it, raising four kids is not the same as seeing 30-40 kids a day. Our pediatrician's advice wins over yours. You may not agree with him. That's fine. But please, let it go and stop nagging us. Love always, Your Children Copyright 2006 Mike Patrick Jr, MD Mike is an American pediatrician. How To Obtain A Personal Loan With Bad Credit
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Nic_Ricciuti]Nic Ricciuti Due to an increasing need for loans, bad credit personal loans are now made available for people with a less than desired credit score. A bad credit score implies a history of missing payments, making late payments, exceeding credit limits or filing for bankruptcy. The best way of obtaining such loans is to first do your research. Different lenders offer different rates, therefore thorough market research is imperative. You must also be aware of your credit score. This information will be needed when you present your personal circumstances to the lender. Obviously, the better your credit score, the better your loan rates will be. A borrower should apply for a bad credit loan only after you have not been approved for a loan from several financial institutions. Most often, a person seeks a bad credit loan to consolidate their debt. Bad credit loans are now easily available on the Internet. Instructions and forms for such loans are not long or complicated. Bad credit personal loans are available in two forms, secured and unsecured. Secured loans are best suited for homeowners. These loans require collateral security. Items such as real estate, automobiles and in some cases jewelry can be used as collateral. If the borrower defaults on payment, the lender is then free to sell the security. Unsecured loans do not require collateral. These loans have higher interest rates because they are not backed by any collateral security. There are other types of bad credit loans available today. Some are in the form of payday loans or cash advance loans. Their main advantage is that they do not require a credit check of any kind. However, only small amounts can be borrowed and must be paid using your next paycheck. Other forms of bad credit loans are car loans or debt consolidation loans. Bad credit loans in many forms are now readily available. They can provide solutions to money problems and give an opportunity to improve your credit score at the same time. Reiki- Does it Concern Religion?
By Hector Milla The very essence of Reiki is healing using natural methods, but it does not concern any religion or cult at all. This is with firm conviction that even though Reiki is spiritual in nature, it does not advocate any kind of belief. Faith here depends on the persons individual capability of believing on the effectiveness of Reiki towards him. There is no particular teaching or Dogma that you must learn in order to be cured by Reiki. Most people just associate Reiki with God because of the unexplainable healing process and effect that it provides them after undergoing the treatment. This is probably due to a certain therapeutic technique and Divine intervention that heals them. Like in any other form of healing, it is only natural to ask for Gods guidance. The term Reiki is derived from the Japanese term Rei, which means Gods Wisdom or the Higher Power. The name itself suggests about the participation of the guidance of God in healing but does not necessarily imply that it is a religion. The Ki also means life force energy. To join and decipher this two terms, it simply means spiritually guided life force energy. Reiki is already proven effective in curing people through all walks of life. The goal of Reiki is to make people realize that in healing ones spirit, he should possess all the willingness and commitment since it is a part of the healing experience. To establish a lasting effect of the Reiki treatment, the client must do his responsibilities by participating in all the activities that he need to take part in the healing process. It should be a collaborative effort between the healer and the client. The Benefits of Fresh Noni Fruit
By Steve Valentino In Polynesia, ripe noni fruit is contained, so that it decomposes and ferments. The amber juice that forms on top of the fermented fruit is consumed daily as a general preventative medicine. But in contemporary Western civilizations, fresh noni fruit is hard to come by. You could try to buy fresh noni fruit directly from a manufacturer of noni fruit products, but it would be expensive, because there is not enough demand to encourage regular supply. Fresh noni fruit smells very pungent, and not an aroma one normally associates with fruit. Noni juice itself also radiates this aroma, but not to the extent that fresh noni fruit does. The riper the noni fruit, the stronger the odor. Consuming fresh noni fruit is the healthiest way to benefit from its properties. This is because it is completely unprocessed. All products made from noni fruit go through a process by which some of the nutrients are lost, decreasing their therapeutic value. Many of these nutrients are chemically volatile, evaporating rapidly in dehydration, juicing, pureeing, and other preparation processes. The next best thing to fresh noni fruit could well be a preparation process called lyophilization or, simply, freeze-drying. In the process, the fresh noni fruit is frozen, and then the water is reduced just enough so that harmful microbes cannot survive. This process avoids the most destructive elements a natural food supplement can undergo, including heat, light, air, moisture, and time. Noni Juice Info provides comprehensive information on Noni fruit drinks, juice, capsules, preparation, benefits, and history. Noni Juice Info is affiliated with Original Content Web. A Follower of What's-His-Name?
By Michael Tummillo The more I read and listen to others who are wading the House Church pool, sadly, the more I see well-meaning Christians inadvertently lifting up the leaders of various "networks" within the movement. Once again, Dissension appears to be trying to rear its ugly head. Each House Church group and network seems to have their own philosophy with each placing greater emphasis on one thing or another. One places a strong emphasis on the Lord's Supper while another stresses that any "layman" can start a church in their home. Another group emphasizes signs and wonders while another emphasizes the "Saturation Church" concept. Many groups are merely taking the "big church" format and reducing it to living room scale, while other groups are, unfortunately, becoming elitist and even divisive as they nurture an "Us against Them" mindset against the traditional, or "legacy" churches. As usual, it doesn't take a Christian very long to revert back to the "holy place of meeting" mentality while giving lip service to the "We are the Church" mantra. But where actual House Church gatherings are concerned, like snowflakes, no two groups will ever be alike. OUR SURVEY SAYS... According to a 2006 survey on the movement, researcher/sociologist George Barna compiled the following breakdown of house churches in America today. Which describes YOUR House Church? The average length of a House Church gathering is 1-1/2 hours. Only 6% of House Churches meet for 3 hours or more. 29% meet on Wednesday, 25% Sunday. For most participants, House Church appears to function as an addendum to their Sunday attendance 60% always follow the same routine. 91% are little more than Bible Studies. A group's average size: 15 people. 5 Children. One third (32%) have no children involved. 50% separate kids and adults; 19% have separate and combined; 22% always have kids and adults together. Other Activities (Shown are the % of House Churches which Practice each) Video 41% Offering 43% Communion 53% Music 65% Prophecy 71% Discussion 75% Teaching 80% Sharing needs 83% Prayer 87% Eat/talk 8% Bible Study 91% Serving 94% 72% of house church participants said they were satisfied with the sense of community they were experiencing. But we can't expect any one House Church to last forever. According to author Frank Viola, 6 months to 2 years is about the maximum lifespan of a House Church. LEAD ME TO YOUR TAKER It must be the Adamic nature of man that causes people who confess that the literal presence of God Himself indwells their very being to act in a manner that is contrary to that declaration. We are no different than the elders of Israel who, although they had the prophet Samuel living among them, a man through whom God spoke, insisted upon having a king like all the other nations. Despite God's warning that a king would TAKE their sons off to war, TAKE their daughters for his Kingdom work and TAKE their taxes, the elders persisted. King Saul was given to them, one of the worst kings ever. The rest is history. So, here we are, this mighty army-on-bivouac called The Church, endued with the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, still insisting that somebody "lead us" around spiritually. Now, when we gather, some may teach us, but that doesn't make them our leaders. Others may prophecy, but the words they speak forth had better confirm what the REAL leader - Jesus - is already saying to us. Another who is gifted musically might lead us in songs of worship (Those of who cannot carry a note in a bucket say "let them!"). The common tendency, however, is to look to an individual HUMAN's leadership rather than trusting the Holy Spirit to guide His family. Romans 8:14 tells us, "All who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God." Led? Wasn't Jesus "led" by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tested by the devil (Luke 4:1-2)? Does that mean our LEADER is the Holy Spirit? Yes, when the Spirit of God invades the soul of man, a new leader emerges, namely, God. Those who know Him will know His voice. What I've found is that far too few of us actually know Him. Leave it to mankind, sojourners and aliens, spiritual beings enduring this human experience, to try and get comfortable here. We send Moses up the mountain to hear from God because we're scared spitless. We'll even pay somebody to hear from God on our behalf - even making that his salaried job, complete with a title (pastor, reverend, father, etc.) - so he can report back to us at the next church service. Mankind, made in God's image and intended to be the freest creature in the universe, actually WANTS to be led by someone else. It's crazy! NOTE: The only thing God NEVER gave mankind dominion over was other people! REPEAT: The only thing God NEVER gave mankind dominion over was other people! Those humans whom we allow to take authority over our lives will take our freedoms - including our spiritual freedoms - if only because we surrender them, NOT always because they wrestled them from our grip. They'll take all the power we give them. The word "religion" - according to Funk & Wagnall's - actually means "a return to bondage." Hmmm. Jesus came to set us FREE! GIVE ME A MAN! In 1 Samuel 17:10, we read about how Goliath shouted at the Israelites, "Give me a man that we may fight each other!" His taunting rang in their ears, causing paralyzing fear. Even today, many are taunted by that same demonic spirit that simply cannot bear to see Christian people submit directly to God, preferring that we submit to a man instead. The apostle Paul had to write a letter of correction to the House Churches that were meeting in the Greek city of Corinth. It seems that some who were coming into The Church - specifically, in this case, those who belonged to Chloe's family - were beginning to take a little too much pride in their spiritual pedigrees and becoming a bit cliquish. They had opened the door to a Sectarian Spirit. According to 1 Corinthians 1:12, they were saying things like, "I am a follower of Paul," and "I am a follower of Apollos," and "I am a follower of Peter," along with those who confessed, "I am a follower of Christ." "I am a follower of Catholicism. I am a follower of the Presbyterians. I am a follower of the Baptists. I'm a follower of (name a preacher, any preacher)." Jesus said, "I will build MY Church, and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it." He never told Peter to build his own network of churches. He said "feed MY lambs," not "feed YOUR lambs." Paul never referred to the churches he planted as "his" churches. Here we read how he pleaded with the Corinthian saints, "Christian brothers, I ask you with all my heart in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to agree among yourselves. Do not be divided into little groups. Think and act as if you all had the same mind." In verse 13, Paul adds, "Has Christ been divided? Was Paul put on a cross to die for your sins? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? I am thankful to God that I baptized Crispus and Gaius only. No one can say that you were baptized in the name of Paul...Christ did not send me to baptize. He sent me to preach the Good News." Good News? Yes, the Good News - the Gospel of the Kingdom that Jesus came to preach about (see Matthew 4;23; 9;35; 24:14; Mark 1:14) that is simply this: 1) There is a King. 2) He has a Kingdom. 3) He loves you and wants you in it with Him so that He can care for your needs. 4) He desires to build that Kingdom with you alongside, working WITH Him as He works THROUGH you. The Queen of Sheba heard about King Solomon and marveled at how he cared for his subjects. From the fine robes they wore, the food they ate, the wisdom the king possessed...he amazed her. "That was some kinda King!" When God cared for the wandering Children of Israel, for forty years their clothing never wore out, water came from rocks, manna and quail were provided to eat and they were provided shade by day and fire by night. Even their enemies were destroyed and those bitten by serpents were healed. "That was some kinda King!" Even King Jesus, when preaching to hungry crowds, provided food. He raised their dead loved ones and healed their sicknesses. "That was some kinda King!" Now, the same Spirit that raised Him from death and led Him in life desires to lead us. But we must submit to Him. We must decrease so that He can increase and shine through us, illuminating our worlds and telling them about the Good News of the Kingdom of God. They, too, once they experience Him, will declare, "That is some kinda King! The Spirit exalts Jesus, and abases the flesh. If our flesh is screaming out for human leadership, pridefully declaring that we are followers of so-n-so, and if our lives are not centered around Jesus, I question whether or not He is truly the Lord - "kyrios" in Greek, meaning "owner" - of our lives. If Jesus is not central to what your House Church is all about, question its reason for being. If you find yourself following any human being and NOT the Spirit of Christ, I have a Word from God for you: Repent! We must fight to keep dissension from entering in among us. Our 30,000 manmade denominations aren't doing a very good job of that, it appears. We have been, despite our good intentions, the #1 cause of atheism on the planet. They will know we are Christians by our love for one another. So, let's all decide to love one another. Jesus is Lord...or He's not. Either we submit to Him alone as Lord of ALL, or He isn't our Lord at all. Every blessing, Michael Tummillo A servant of God http://www.yourtown4jesus.org/page/page/3657478.htm ABOUT THE AUTHOR
